Couplings are used to connect two movable shafts together, which allows you to transfer torque from one shaft to another. For example, to connect the stepper motor shaft to the ball screw shaft in a CNC machine, to transmit torque from the motor to the ball screw.
Cam couplings consist of two halves, between which there is a plastic insert (most often polyurethane). Couplings of this type allow a slight coaxiality (though slightly less than spiral ones). The plastic insert allows you to effectively dampen the vibrations that occur during operation.
